QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
What should I do prior to my arrival? Be sure to fill out the online intake form which I will send to your email address. This form includes several questions about your health history. The intake form also asks about any medications you may be taking. I would like to have a brief conversation with you about your health history when you arrive at the massage studio. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions during this conversation.
Where will my massage session take place? Your massage will take place in one of the three treatment rooms at Post-Operative and Therapeutic Massage. Soft light and soft music will help create a relaxing and nurturing environment. During the massage, you will lie down on a comfortable and safe massage table.
Should I be completely undressed during the massage? Massage is generally more effective when the client is unclothed. But you should disrobe to your personal level of comfort. You will be covered with a sheet or towel throughout the message to ensure your privacy.
Will you be present in the room when I am getting undressed? No. I will leave the room before you get undressed. When you are ready, you can lie down on the massage table and cover yourself with a sheet or towel that will be provided for you. I will knock on the door before re-entering the room.
What parts of my body will be massaged? A full-body massage typically includes the head, neck, shoulders, back, arms, hands, legs, and feet. Sometimes the abdominal region is also included.
How does a massage feel? Swedish massage is the most common type of massage. A Swedish massage uses flowing movements that start with light pressure, transition to more intensive pressure, and conclude with moderate pressure. To reduce friction, massage therapists often use lotion or oil especially suited for massage. If I encounter troublesome points of muscular tension, I may apply extra pressure to release the tension.
What should I do during the massage session? You can simply close your eyes and relax. This is your moment of grace! But feel free to communicate with me about anything that would help make your massage more effective or more comfortable. In particular, please let me know about any unexpected discomfort that you may be feeling. How will I feel after the massage session? You will most likely feel deeply relaxed. You may also feel some relief from any chronic pain you may have been experiencing. Because you will most likely be in a deeply relaxed state, please take your time getting off the massage table and getting dressed. In the hours and days after your massage, you may experience a deep sense of well-being and renewal.
